Co-Host: Paddy Ryan

Paddy holds a Bachelor of Science degree with first class honours and a doctorate. He currently teaches, as an Adjunct Associate Professor, at the Colorado School of Mines. He recently worked as a
full Professor at Johnson & Wales University in Denver. Paddy is a certified personal trainer. He also does freelance nature photography and gives public lectures on a regular basis. He is working
on several new books and pursuing his photographic career with enthusiasm.


  • PADI Divemaster with nearly 1300 dives in environments ranging from the sub-Antarctic through Caribbean and Pacific to Lake Malawi
  • University professor for many years and has a doctorate in fish ecology
  • Published underwater books: The Snorkeller's Guide to the Coral Reef and Fiji's Natural Heritage
  • Co-author of: Fiordland Underwater: New Zealand's Hidden Wilderness (publication helped lead areas being declared marine reserves).
  • Last year Paddy co-authored two books with long time friend Chris Paulin; The Rocky Shore - a guide to the intertidal plants and animals of Wellington's Taputeranga Marine Reserve and Taranaki's Rocky Shore - a guide to the intertidal plants and animals.
  • Worked on documentaries for BBC, Grenada Television and Television New Zealand
